Health classes explained
Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard: what these tiers are and what pushes you from one to another.
Life insurance is priced by rate class. Language shifts between companies, but the framework stays the same: Preferred Plus (sometimes Super Preferred or Preferred Best), Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard, then table adjustments for higher-than-normal danger. Tobacco users have their own set of tiers at higher costs.
What underwriters look at
Height and weight, blood pressure and cholesterol levels, family history of early heart or cancer death, how you drive, prescription history, what you do for work and in your time off, and use of tobacco or nicotine. The top tier demands strong results across most measures; Preferred allows some flexibility; Standard Plus and Standard accept managed conditions such as blood pressure on medication.
How to use the quote tool
The health question is straightforward: describe yourself truthfully. Excellent aligns with Preferred Plus, Very good with Preferred, Good with Standard Plus and Average with Standard. Your quote reflects that choice; the carrier locks in the true tier during underwriting. If you're not sure, get quotes from two levels and look at the spread, then let the application clarify things. Overstating your health doesn't change your final premium; it just clouds the quote.
Susman Insurance Agency can point you to carriers with underwriting rules that favor your specific health picture, which often counts more than posted rates.
